Entry Requirements

Passes at grade C or above in two or more A Levels (80 UCAS tariff points) in relevant subjects, or a relevant Level 3 qualification

GCSE maths and English at Grades 9-5 (C or above)

Mature students will be assessed on relevant experience

Training and Development Summary

Subjects covered in the course include Mechanical Principles, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Design, Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines, Engineering Maths, Managing a Professional Engineering Project, Production Engineering for Manufacture, and Quality and Process Improvement.

Studied part-time over two years, students will attend college one day a week for 30 weeks in each year.

Assessment takes place using a variety of methods, including assignments, presentations, projects, and case studies. All students will receive regular feedback on their work and progress from their tutors. The qualification will be graded at pass, merit, and distinction.

The HNC in Mechanical Engineering is primarily an academic, work-related course and is made up of eight units. The course is designed to improve the career prospects of students who are working within the engineering industry and those who wish to broaden their skills set. It will support a career path in mechanical, manufacturing, production, project management and related disciplines.

Professional Recognition and Career Progression

Those who complete the course will be awarded the Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering.
