Entry Requirements

Passes at grade C or above in two or more A Levels (80 UCAS tariff points) in relevant subjects, or a relevant Level 3 vocational qualification with a minimum of a Merit grade

GCSE maths and English at Grades 9-4 (C or above)

Mature students will be assessed on relevant experience

All students will be admitted on their ability to benefit from study at this level and their intellectual capacity and motivation to succeed

Course Content

Subjects covered in the course include Programming, Networking, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Database Design & Development.

Studied part-time over two years, students will attend college one day a week for 30 weeks in each year

Assessment takes place using a variety of methods including assignments, presentations, projects, and case studies. Many assessments will be based on the application of knowledge and skills obtained in the computing lab. All students will receive regular feedback on their work and progress from their tutors. The qualification will be graded at pass, merit and distinction.

The Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Computing (Cyber Security) provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the computing and cyber security sector. The course prepares students for employment in roles such as system management, networking, software development and game design. Units contain a balance of theory and practical skills. Everything we deliver has been verified by industry and local employers to ensure we are delivering what is required in your future careers. Students will learn how to programme through the use of programming languages such as C#, Java, and Python. With units focused on IT security and cyber security, we dive into setting up secure systems, which are equipped to deal with the threats found in today’s digital world.

Progression

Those who complete the course will be awarded the Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Computing (Cyber Security).

On successful completion of the Higher National Certificate (120 credits) you could move onto your next stage of higher education, you could enrol on our Higher National Diploma for a further 120 credits. On completion of the Higher National Certificate or Diploma you could apply for direct entry onto a top-up degree course or a relevant honours degree course at the University of Worcester (entering at year 2 or 3). Alternative providers are available, including remote learning providers. You could also move straight out into industry.
