We expect those studying this HTQ to have a Level 3 in a related subject, as well as GCSE maths and English at a Grade C/4 or above. We welcome interest from mature students who may not have the formal qualifications expected, but a wealth of experience in a related subject.
Subjects covered in the course include Principles of Off-site Construction; Construction Technology; Building Information Modelling; and Principles of Alternative Energy, to name a few.
Studied part-time over two years, students will attend college one day a week for 30 weeks in each year. The timetable for September 2024 entry is yet to be confirmed, but will be communicated when available with those who express interest.” Assessment takes place using a variety of methods including; assignments, presentations, projects, and case studies. All students will receive regular feedback on their work and progress from their tutors. The qualification will be graded at pass, merit and distinction.
This course will give students the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to achieve high performance in the construction environment and provide core skills required for a range of careers in construction, specifically those related to management and operations. The Level 4 will lay the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to construction and different modern methods of construction functions. By the end of the Level 4, students will have sound knowledge of basic concepts of construction, and be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to the key areas of construction. The awarding body has worked closely with CABE; CIAT; CIHT; IHE; ICE; iStructE and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in developing this programme.
Those who complete the course will be awarded the Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Modern Methods of Construction for England.
Level 4 achievers can consider studying the Level 5 Higher National Diploma which can then lead to studying construction-related courses at honours level, such as BSc Construction Project Management; BSc Innovation Home Design and Construction, and BA (Hons) Design for Future Living.
