We’re proud to be supporting Tomorrow’s Engineers Week this week. Now in its eighth year, the initiative shines a spotlight on engineers and aims to change perceptions of engineering in order to inspire future engineers.
Timing couldn’t be better for Dudley College, as a key piece of land at Castle Hill has been secured as a major part of the plans for the creation of the £32.5 million Black Country & Marches Institute of Technology, paving the way for a new higher education campus and ‘tomorrow’s engineers’. Once complete, the site will be a ‘university park’ specialising in advanced engineering and manufacturing, modern construction methodologies and medical engineering.
The development is part of the extensive regeneration of Dudley, taking place on an unprecedented scale, which also includes the Midland Metro extension and very light rail technology at Castle Hill.
Commenting on completion of the land deal Neil Thomas, Chief Executive and Principal of Dudley College of Technology, said:
“Securing this land during Tomorrow’s Engineers Week couldn’t have come at a better time! It will allow us to continue moving forward with the ambitious plans for the Castle Hill area and the developments surrounding the Black Country & Marches Institute of Technology. Anyone who has driven past the site in recent months will have seen the steel frame for the building is now in place and we are beginning the enclosure to make the building weather tight.
The expansion of higher level technical education is vital is providing ‘tomorrow’s engineers’ with the dedicated facilitates and inspiration that are needed. Learners and employers will soon be able to take advantage of this exciting new facility when the centre opens in September 2021.”
The Institute of Technology will provide high-quality training opportunities with clear pathways to skilled jobs in the following sectors:
- Advanced engineering and manufacturing
- Modern construction methodologies
- Medical engineering and healthcare
The curriculum will include high-quality technical education programmes from Level 4 to degree level.
